The term “meme” was coined by Richard Dawkins in 1976 to describe small units of culture that spread from person to person by copying or imitation. Memes in digital culture control and influence our lives and beliefs on daily basis, and thus, construct a meme spectacle in which people create pleasure, seek social acceptance and construct self-identity.
The project imagines a meme machine that externalizes and visualizes the meme spectacle. By constantly drawing people's attention into the “rabbit hole”, the shape of the soft mesh fabric structured by machine is actively flowing and reshaping to stimulate the intangible but ever-changing meme spectacles. The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by highly reductionistic visual expression.
